How to Explore Uluwatu Bali in One Day – Surf, Sunsets, and Monkeys!
Heading to Bali but only have a day? Don’t worry, this guide will tell you everything you need to make the most of your time there. Uluwatu is the untouched little corner of Bali, located on the southern tip of the island. Bali is quite touristy these days, but Uluwatu remains relatively undiscovered. With its breathtaking landscapes, Uluwatu offers you a serene experience you won’t want to end.

Surfing
Adventure seekers will love the chance to revel in their favourite activities like surfing. Padang Padang Beach, in particular, is famous for the sport. You can get here early in the morning and throw a stunning sunrise into the bargain. Even if you’re not into surfing, this beach calls for a visit. Getting here presents a challenge, as you have to find your way through a narrow rocky entrance, but it only makes it better. For surfers, this is paradise – you’ll find some world-class waves. Non-surfers can take an early morning dip in the ocean. You can also just remain on the beach and enjoy a serene walk through the rock formations.
Uluwatu Temple
You find one of Bali’s most sought-after attractions in Uluwatu: Uluwatu Temple. The temple is located just 15 minutes from Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort, one of the Uluwatu resorts and a popular landmark. It’s a must-visit for those who are spiritually inclined. The temple sits at the top of a steep cliff about 70 metres above water. So, it not only offers cultural insights but also provides stunning views. Take your time to wander around the temple, admiring the beautiful Balinese architecture, which is hard to come by these days. Keep your belongings away from the cheeky monkeys; they’re adorable, but they also happen to be world-class scamps!
Lunch
After your temple visit, you can head to one of the cliffside restaurants for a delicious lunch. These eateries offer expertly carved authentic Balinese cuisine to be savoured while enjoying panoramic views of the island. Mie Goreng and Nasi Goreng are must-try dishes, and you can add to that a plate of grilled seafood.
Beaches
What next? Beaches! Make it a memorable afternoon by visiting the island’s many beautiful beaches. You might not have the time to squeeze every single beach into your itinerary, so here are some of the must-visits.
- Bingin Beach: Another spot popular with surfers, Bingin Beach is known for offering perfect breaks. The atmosphere is quite laid back. You can either join the surfers or chill on the beach.
- Dreamland Beach: This beach is a bit more commercial than Bingin Beach, but it still offers clear waters and soft sand. You can soak up all that tropical sun or take a dip in the warm water.
- Suluban Beach: Both surfers and photographers will find plenty to do at Suluban Beach. It’s hidden under a rocky overhang, which makes it one of the most picturesque beaches in Bali. Plus, surfers can find some excellent breaks here.
Sunset and Kecak Dance
Head back to Uluwatu Temple to catch a beautiful sunset and enjoy a traditional dance performance. Thanks to the temple’s elevated location, you can enjoy a breathtaking sunset here. If you stick around a bit, you can witness the Kecak Dance, a traditional ritual that takes place at sunset. Performed by a group of men, the dance brings to life the story of the Ramayana. It's an absolute must-see
A Late Night
Enjoy a delicious dinner at one of the restaurants before you call it a day. You’ll find plenty of eateries that combine delicious food and stunning views. Some places offer a bar experience with cocktails and live music, so take your pick!
Getting Around
Getting around Uluwatu is quite easy as there’s less traffic compared to the rest of the island. You can hire your own car and drive yourself or find one with a driver. Most locals like to get around by motorbike. If you’re feeling daring enough, follow suit!
